A couple days of rain brought the river up and the Rapid River is living up to its name! It’s nice to see the sun hopefully it sticks around for awhile now!

After a long day of rain Neil and Mike headed down to the dock after supper

Walleye bite

Anglers are doing well! Lots of large walleye continue to be boated coming into the Rainy! It’s like pre spawn only unusually late! And anglers are allowed to keep one over 28″ this time of year! Although catch, photo, and release is preferred! Pink color is hot right now and around 17′ is always a good depth on the river. Water temp is in the lower 40′s and climbing. Water levels continue to fall.

Looks like the late spawn could make river fishing for walleye over the Holiday weekend a lot of fun! We still have an open cabin if you’re still looking! And pictures are always welcome to share on our site with other anglers!

Area locals Doug Hagen, Aaron Gens, Shane Burk shared this picture with us, check it out! Sturgeon measured 73″ long and had a girth of 29″. Almost a state record. Took two to get it into the boat. Caught right outside of the Clementson Rapids.

Walleye chop

So windy lately! Today even more so! But the walleye are out in force! We’ve had a group yesterday boat 4 over 28″! Released all of them, awesome! Of the keepers, the filleted females were still full of eggs. This could explain why they are finally getting active! Here is a couple of Barry’s great catches!

Opener weekend

Anglers fought the wind till late yesterday afternoon. Not much was biting, anglers near town and at the edge of the Lake had a little better luck. Water temp is back to lower 40′s!

Today is beautiful and should be much more pleasant on the water. Anglers were using 3/4 oz on the river.

Fishing Opener

No rain today, but the wind has been brutal! Churning up the river as it goes. We won’t know how anglers did until they come in this evening. Some left later hoping the winds would die down. At least it’s not snowing?

The last few days before the opener were quiet around here. Most anglers waiting for the state opener and the river to clear up. So last water temp we had was upper 30′s. I’ll get a current jig weight that’s working on the river tonight.

Last day of Sturgeon Prespawn

It’s the last day for open sturgeon season until July 1st. After anglers struggled the last few days due to muddy river conditions, they reported today it’s showing signs of clearing and water temp rising again. Water level and current has gone down as well. Sturgeon began biting again today and water temp is back to around 40 degrees! Opener weather looks like it may be in the lower 50′s for high’s and the fishing in the river is shaping up well!
